I found it difficult to come to a selection in this race, but sharing my thoughts.
Favourite Tidal Watch has an obvious chance under a penalty after winning well earlier in the week, but as always I try to look for each way alternatives. Nayati is one possibility as this is McCain’s local track and he usually gets a winner or two here, and he has a good record in this race too with 2 wins and 4 runner up spots from 12 runners, but all bar one of those that ran well were at single figure prices, it will be interesting if there is late money for it. Sarah Hollinshead has also won the race before, and her father Reg also had a good record in this, but Lookforarainbow needs to improve quite a bit on what he has shown so far. 2nd favourite Petite Jack also has a chance on form and will run well if he is not inconvenienced by the track (he is yet to run well on 4 runs on tight tracks) and Neil King is 0-12 here which is bit of a negative. So the two each way considerations for me were Movie Set and Romanor. Movie Set won a selling hurdle last time in first time blinkers, but he was giving weight to a higher rated horse so it wasn’t a bad effort, I think he will run well but needs to improve a bit more up in class. Romanor is now back down to his last winning mark, and takes a significant drop in class after finishing in midfield in class 2 handicap at Sandown last time. Seamus Mullins doesn’t send many runners to Bangor, he has 2 winners (5/1 & 12/1) from 19 runners here but most of his runners here have been big prices. Romanor was 10/1 this morning, but only 11/2 now, it would have been my each way selection in the race if I could have got on at 10/1 but I don’t like backing them after they have shortened so much as the value is gone, so I have not had a bet in race. But just for a bit of fun, putting Tidal Watch, Romanor and Movie Set in combination forecasts/tricasts and hope for the best.
Funny market, at least on Betfair Sportsbook it is. A few minutes earlier they had Nayati at 14/1, now it’s 17/2, Lookforarainbow into 8/1 from 14/1. They pushed out Romanor to 7/1 and a minute later back into 6/1.
I see on the exchange there is little money for anything other than the favourite so probably not taking much to move prices is my guess.
2nd, 3rd & 5th. But at last minute I also did it with Nayati, aftertiming I know but I did say money for it would be interesting, so it didn’t work out badly.
