BEST of the BETS

Couple of small bets today, neither of them has much chance according to betting so I am not expecting anything but hopefully they will run well.

2:40 Fontwell - HEY BILL (8/1) has now dropped to 7 lbs lower than his last win which came just under a year ago. Some poor runs this season but his 6th of 10 at Newbury in December in a much better race than this probably wasn’t a bad effort. This probably the weakest race he has raced in for a long time, needs to bounce back from a very poor run last time (beaten 50+ lengths) though. Trainer (also runs Sammylou later on this card) doesn’t have a bad record here with 5 wins from 34 (+17 LSP).

4:10 Lingfield - CROMWELL (22/1) was a well beaten last of 3 runners at Southwell last time, but he would have needed the run anyway as trainer’s record of 1 from 148 with horses returning after a break of 4 months+ suggests. His earlier effort of 5th of 6 (beaten 2 lengths) over 1 mile here from 4 lbs higher would give him a bit of chance, but the real hope is that this step up in trip will see him improve. His half brother The Secrets Out (also trained by Luke Dace) showed huge improvement when stepping up to a mile and half for first time to win at 16/1, having been unplaced on 7 runs up to a mile prior to that. This one is stepping up to 10 furlongs for first time, hopefully it will bring improvement.
