BEST of the BETS

Taken a chance by going against the market leaders here with a small bet on ALKUMAIT (9/1). He was impressive in winning his maiden at Goodwood before impressing again in winning the Mill Reef (Group 2) at Newbury last time. His form is good enough, only doubt is about whether he will stay or not, as in last 20 years only 1 winner (US Navy Flag in 2017) of this was stepping up to 7 for first time. Tregoning’s last runner in this race was Finjaan in 2008, who was similarly stepping up in distance, finished a very close 3rd @ 20/1 (OR 110). There are 7f winners in Alkumait’s family and on normal going I would say he would be ok, but the combination of soft going and distance is giving me doubts, that’s why it’s only a small bet.
