Delagate This Lord - course specialist, has won here 5 times including in June this year, but looks held by Princess Power, only 1 lb better off for finishing length and quarter behind here 2 weeks ago.
Devils Roc - another one who likes it here, all 3 career wins over this c&d but in class 5 & 6, this is a strong class 4.
Fox Hill - has a good strike rate with 5 from 19 on turf, and has showed improved form this year. Beat a well handicapped rival last time (who had won in class 3 on previous run and won in class 3 again next time from 3 lbs higher), with the pair clear of the others, that looks strong form. Up 5 lbs for it but may still be improving.
Global Prospector - only 9th of 11 when 2nd fav on return from 500 day absence. He is again a shortish price but needs to have come on a lot for that run, others make more appeal.
Haveoneyerself - in good form this season. Yet to win at Bath, but went close on good going over half a furlong shorter here earlier in season. 2 lbs higher than that but all 4 career wins have come on quicker going so should be suited by that today and maybe the extra half furlong too so I wouldn’t rule him out.
Ice Age - completely lost his chance in the stalls last time, but his earlier 3rd over c&d (beaten under a length) from 1 lb higher puts him right in the mix for this.
Michaels Choice - another one who likes it here, 2 wins from 3 visits here, this much stronger than the race he won here in July. Wouldn’t rule him out but I think he needs to improve.
Newyorkstateofmind - yet to win in 8 runs this season, but remains on same mark that he started the season on (has finished 2nd 3 times). Only 1 win from 14, so I will be surprised if he can win this.
Pour La Victoire - regular winner in his day, but 10 year old now, trip also shorter than ideal for him.
Princess Power - 2nd in class 3 here last time but had no chance with the easy winner. Has a chance, but losing run now up to 11 and still only 2 lbs lower than last win in June 2019.
Union Rose - recorded 5th course win when winning over 5 here two weeks ago. That win has put him back in mark of 80s, last time he won off this sort of mark was in 2017, and he is better over the minimum trip, only 1 win at this distance.
Very competitive handicap, I narrowed it down to 3, Fox Hill, Haveoneyerself & Ice Age. I have backed HAVEONEYERSELF, as I think conditions will suit him and is an each way price, also it’s first time William Buick is riding for John Butler in over 6 years (this is one of his 3 rides for the trainer today).
Small each way on Haveoneyerself @ 11/1, main danger Fox Hill
Good luck AKD - I'm going with Brighton specialist Pour La Victoire - think the going might suit and it hasn't won for a year or so - might be his turn. Also taking a chance on Sheena's in the last - again she sends one a long way and Jock has a good record when riding at Bath Lyrica's Lion (IRE) 6,b g 9-13
Gamble of the race wins. My 3 shortlisted horses finished 3rd, 4th & 5th, and thankfully this time I picked the right one out of the three as Haveoneyerself just held on to 3rd place @ 12/1 to give me a little bit of profit.
