4:25 Chester - quite a big field for this competitive sprint, so draw is likely to play a big part. In last 30 handicaps run over this distance with 12-14 runner fields, only 2 winners have come from a stall higher than 6 (1 from stall 7 and 1 from 9), thats 2 winners from 210 runners. I would have backed the course socialist Powerallied had he been drawn lower, he might still get placed he has such a good record here but winning from stall 10 will be tough.

The current favourite Broken Spear is well handicapped, was beaten only a couple of lengths from 12 lbs higher mark here just over a year ago, he will be hard to keep out of places from a good draw, but is short enough price for one that doesn’t win very often.

Wrenthorpe is in good form but is up another 2 lbs for latest 2nd and is running at the course for first time. In fact, almost all of his racing has been done over the straight, only 2nd time he is running on a turning track (ran ok at Ponte previously). Has a chance if he handles the track.

ORVAR ran ok at Doncaster on Saturday (a race he had won for last two years) to finish 5th. Had 3 of these behind that day, including Tathmeen and Triple Spear. Draw in stall 5 looks ok, and he has a slow starter on his inside so chance of getting into a good position. Maybe a little bit disappointing on only previous try at Chester (beaten about 8 lengths), but the winner was an improving 3yo that bolted up, so maybe not as bad as it looks. Mulrennan rides for first time (and he doesn’t ride at Chester very often but has a good record here), he used to have a very good record for Midgley, but not so good in last couple of seasons.

One that could potentially run well at a big price is Seen The Lyte, drawn in stall 4, but she usually starts very slowly and could squander that good draw. Yet to place in 4 previous runs here but finished 4th at 25/1 on one of those runs. It’s a risky one but if she breaks on terms then price of 25/1 could look big so I have to have a little saver on her just in case.

I considered backing Broken Spear for place only, but decided to have a little e/w bet on Orvar @ 9/2, and a saver on Seen The Lyte (25/1).

Couple of others today, both are short prices so doing a double on them. LOVE (4/9) in the Yorkshire Oaks (3:15) and Bossipop (15/8) in 7:30 Chester.

    Good luck.

Love & Bossipop both win too to land a 3.15/1 double. There are days when nothing goes right, but sometimes you get days like this that keep you interested.
