2:30 - very open looking sprint handicap, I have done small each way bets on a couple. QAARAAT (9/1) was disappointing when beaten 4 lengths over c&d in June off the same mark as today (55), but has run well here previously, that includes placed efforts from marks of 72 & 69, and also the unplaced effort when beaten 2 1/4 lengths around this time last year from a 10 lbs higher mark than today looks pretty good in context of this race. Other one is POPPY JAG (25/1), finished 3rd from a 7 lbs higher mark on only previous run here, that was 2 years ago and she is not the most reliable and is returning from a 10-month absence. She has run ok enough on seasonal reappearance for last two seasons though, finishing 4th of 13 (25/1) & 3rd of 11 (6/1).
Not expecting much but hopefully both will run well, small each ways at 9/1 & 25/1
Couple of others I like are Noorban (1:30) & Phoenix Approach (5:00), prices are short so just a double on them.
Thanks guys. Noorban did it nicely after a slow start, and looks like she will stay further. First time O’Meara has had a debut winner later than July, although that may not mean anything as it’s an unusual season. It was still a good performance beating the colts, not sure to follow up next time given O’Meara’s record though - only 1 win from 17 2nd time with his debut winners. Noorban’s dam was also trained by O’Meara, she won on debut but never raced again.
The two in 2:30 race Qaaraat & Poppy Jag finished only 5th & 7th.
