*** PRE-RACE REPORT ***
On Thursday 2 August, Cupboard Love is declared to run in the 4:10 at Goodwood in the Telegraph Nursery Handicap (Class 2) over 7f. There are 19 runners and Joe Fanning rides. Cupboard Love is drawn in stall 16.
Mark Johnston says Cupboard Love is in good form at home and he has opted for this race over 7f, rather than the short race on Friday, as he feels the sprint course at Goodwood is very sharp and this test should suit her better. Mark says she is not drawn very well, as a lower draw is preferable, but she has done nothing wrong on the course so far and he hopes she can run another sound race.
Our View: This is obviously the most competitive race Cupboard Love has encountered, and Joe Fanning will have a hard job to get a good position early on from stall 16. That said, she is a relaxed filly who travels well, so we hope she can drop into a good position and finish stringly. Main opposition could come from the unbeaten More Than This (also rated 88) and the classy James Watt (88), who is stepping up in trip but down in class. The same can be said about top weight, Shaybani. On paper, the top weights look far more likely to be involved in the finish than their lower-rated rivals, and we hope Cupboard Love can be in the shake-up, although we would be more confident IF she was drawn lower.
