Ok, it’s probably going to finish last but I have tried one at a big price.
In recent seasons the horses that had run in the Richmond Stakes (Group 2, 6 furlongs Glorious Goodwood) have gone on to run well in this race. Looking at last 5 seasons, there are 8 horses that had run in the Richmond. This is how they did in the Middle Park.
7th of 10 (25/1)
2nd of 6 (1/2)
1st of 7 (1/2)
3rd of 7 (25/1)
2nd of 10 (11/10)
3rd of 10 (6/1)
4th of 10 (10/1)
3rd of 12 (14/1)
I know most of them are shorter prices but only 1 out of 8 has finished out of first 4. MARIES DIAMOND (80/1) was only beaten a length (2nd) in the Richmond last time, he had earlier finished half length 2nd in another Group 2 over 6 furlongs, the Railway Stakes in Ireland before winning a Group 3. Today is Group 1 so I am not expecting him to win but I think he can run well enough as he has proved himself to be a Group 2/3 horse. Also look at Mark Johnston’s runners in this race in recent seasons. This is typical of the early season runner with a busy campaign that Johnston runs in this race. Last 3 seasons this is how his runners have done in this race.
2015 - Buratino, rated 113, 2nd of 7 @ 13/2
2016 - The Last Lion, rated 105, won @ 25/1
2017 - Card Sharp, rated 109, 3rd of 12 @ 14/1 (had also run in Richmond Stakes (3rd) earlier in season)
Maries Diamond is rated 108
As I say, it’s probably going to finish last but I have backed it each way at 80/1 (3 places), 40/1 (4 places) & 20/1 (5 places). Hoping he can at least finish in first 5.
Hi Stainless, I backed it with Betfair Sportsbook, I see they have just cut it to 66/1 now. I am not sure but I think other bookies offer similar prices too.
i bet MD Yesterday at 80/1 for 3 places, no 4 or 5 places on Ladbrokes, only other bet i could get on MD is 33/1 without the Fav.
gl all today ..
